Chris

Welcome to the beginning of our journey here on Heroes – The Hero Complex.

To begin with, I do hope that you have already made an introduction page so we can all greet you accordingly! If not, please remember to do so by hitting the link, located above.

Now, onto other matters.

Heroes is a text-based Role-Playing Site – which will now be referred to as an RPG – where one can create their own characters and live out their character’s life. From making decisions as big as deciding if they are going to be a hero or a villain, or as small as to what they want to eat for lunch, you the member, are in control. But before we begin Role-playing, there are a few moments of due diligence that we must get through first; thus, we begin.

Social Etiquette

  1. Creativity
As stated above, this is a text-based forum which allows one’s imagination to run wild. Here, we encourage one to let go of their inhibitions and create something beautiful that one could not imagine. We also wish that members of our community attempt to be original and create new characters that intrigue not only you, but the other RPers as well, therefore we have decided that Cannon Superheroes, Villains, etc. are out of bounds and cannot be role-played here. Be an enigma for your fellow members, and create something extraordinary.

  2. Diversity
Even looking at the site’s staff, one can recognize that we are not all located in one area of the world. Due to this, we recommend people to be open-minded and excited to experience many different cultures. We would also appreciate if every member was respectful regarding each person’s ethical backgrounds as well as religion, sexual orientation, appearance, etc. We are all here to enjoy this rewarding and freeing way of self-expression and it is absolutely not tolerated for any of our members to face hate crime and racism. Those that decide that they wish to spread hateful words will be dealt with accordingly and efficiently. Let’s make this an enjoyable second home for everyone, yes?

  3. Language
Here on Heroes, English is the go-to language. All announcements, systems and role-playing will be written in proper English format. We do recommend to our members that when posting, they enforce this rule by properly checking their spelling, grammar, the proper use of a word, etc. Remember, this is a text-based forum where writing is the only way other members get to know you and our characters. We want to promote proper English, seeing how one who is here must enjoy writing and our goal for your visit is for:

    a. You to enjoy yourself and
    b. To gain a better appreciation and skill at writing

  4. Maturity
Having gone through the ages of birth to adulthood, the Administration can definitely understand the trials to act and be mature in many situations. We expect members to hold themselves in a sense of respectability, meaning we wish that members act in a way that they would later be proud and unashamed of. Regardless of this however, we also wish for members to be themselves and we promote the idea of individuality. All that we ask is that when it comes to discussions, touchy topics, or disputes that we handle each one appropriately and without the unnecessary dramatics that merely hinder an argument. Please remember, if there is ever an issue that you cannot handle judiciously, contact a member of Staff immediately.

  5. Plagiarism
Each member of Heroes has a right to their work and its distribution. As a site, we promise to never limit your rights to your creative work meaning we promise to relinquish your writings if you find that you are no longer satisfied here. However, it also goes both ways and we hope that you as members, do not attempt to plagiarize some of or any of the written work that has been posted here by both members and staff. Each person has put a variable amount of time into their posts and it would be appreciated if you accepted this, respected it and read the copyright information. If one wishes to speak to an Administrator about the privileges of using the code or systems that are posted here, please contact Becky.

  6. Respect
As we come full circle, it can be assumed that you have noticed that the word respect has come up already multiple times in the Code. There is a reason for that. Here at Heroes, we hold great importance in individuality and the rights and freedoms to express it, respectively. We hope that as members, you will accept your fellow peers and be kind to each other when in contact with another. We understand that to each his own when regarding many topics and that the diversity will lead to many different opinions, but always keep in mind, dear member, that we must respect and attempt to understand one another. Respect is not something that is freely given as it is earned from others, so do not expect it in return if you act or speak ignorantly, arrogantly or aggressively towards another.

Remember - do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

If any questions have arose during your time reading this section of the code, please feel free to contact Becky.

Chat-Box Behaviour

  1. Abuse
As stated above, we have a zero-tolerance for member abuse. When using the chat-box, the Staff assumes that you will treat others with respect, proper etiquette and without hostility. One does not have to always agree with another when in the chat-box, but you must be gracious and empathetic when people are expressing themselves. Let us also remember that the chat-box and its occupants are there for leisure and pleasure so please do not regal them with your trials and tribulations if they are not willing to listen – it’s opening up an entirely different can of worms that can only lead to people's feelings being hurt. It is recommended that the topics of race, religion, political affiliation, sexual orientation, etc. are also avoided.

A sub-topic of abuse is Staff Abusing Members. If a member witnesses the misuse of a Staff Member’s powers, slander or hurtful words being spoken, etc. , the Administration would like the member to report this immediately to the next available Staffer or Administrator. Here on Heroes, we do not promote the misuse of such a prestigious position and will take appropriate action to protect the welfare of our members. You, Guest, come first.

  2. Language
Yes, this site is rated Mature. No, it does not mean that you are allowed to cuss profusely, use crude terminology, and speak rudely or sexually descriptively here. We expect you to hold yourself in respectful terms and that you do not speak inadequately if it can be helped. If one is caught cussing profusely, swearing at others, or behaving in a rude manner to others in the chat-box, you will be faced with Staff Action. Therefore, keep it clean or be faced with the Staff’s own ‘Soap in Mouth’ technique to be rid you of your sailor’s mouth.

  3. Racism
As it was stated in our Code of Ethics, we are a forum that has been founded by members from every corner of the world, therefore opening us up and allowing us to experience different cultures. Due to this, we expect members to be open to these experiences and to respect those around them. Racist slurs, hate crimes and words aren’t tolerated here and it is seen as a severe infraction of our code. If these occur, it will be dealt with efficiently resulting in an undetermined length ban from the chat-box.

  4. Respect
We promote users to enjoy the benefits of having a chat-box. It allows you to build connections with your fellow members, as well as relationships outside of Role-play. We believe it is important to do this so that we can build and strengthen our community here on Heroes. Respect becomes a key factor to this unity in the chat-box. It would be appreciated if members respect their fellow companions’ opinions, thoughts and words. We do not expect unanimous agreements with many subjects, but it is important for one to try. Remember, try to be empathetic to other people and put yourself in their shoes. Understanding, partnered with respect can go a long way.

  5. Sexism
This site is populated by both men and women. Simple enough, really. Please try to eliminate the sexist, derogatory terms from your vocabulary when you log onto the chat-box; it really isn’t welcome here. Equality of the races is promoted and we hope that it will be well-received, resulting in the Staff not having to deal with scenarios or situations that deal with this.
